With the global economic crises and globalisation of markets, the buying behaviour of traditional and well established markets, has changed. This has made the exporting of commodity steel tube and pipe increasingly difficult and as the tube manufacturers have surplus capacity, they need to export. This requires a radical change in the tube industry from commodity products to Value Added Products.

This is of concern and as imports from the Far East escalate this will result in the de-industrialisation of industry, significant unemployment and loss of skills.

Grade Q345 Imported Tube does not conform to grade S355

Grade S355 Tube Launched

Grade S355 Tube, or often know as Structural Hollow Sections, was launched in February in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.

This project was a joint venture between the Association of Steel Tube and Pipe Manufacturers (ASTPM) of South Africa and the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC).
